Colm Toibin has been a journalist and editor, the author of several volumes of non-fiction, and a literary reviewer, but he is probably best known as a novelist. He won the Impac award for literature in 2006 with 'The Master', having previously reached the shortlist with his novel the 'Blackwater Lightship'. Both these novels also reached the shortlist of the Booker prize. His most recent fiction was a volume of short stories, 'Mothers and Sons'.
